STAMPS: TRADITIONAL FESTIVE FOOD(LATEST ISSUE)


Malaysia is a unique country with various races and myriad of ethnic groups from Sabah and Sarawak, that is rich with various religions as well as different culture and customs.This can be seen on the wide variety of food dishes that are served during festive celebration by the different race an ethnic groups that vary in cooking styles, taste and decoration.

Malay Traditional Food

The traditional food for malays as featured in the 80sen stamps are serunding, lemang and rempeyek. Other traditional malay dishes such as ketupat daun palas, ketupat nasi, kuah kacang and rendang are featured in the RM 1 stamp in the miniature sheet.Sweets such as banana chips, kuih goyang, kuih bahulu, kuih bangkit are also featured in the 60sen stamp in the booklet.

Chinese Traditional Food
Yee Sang, the famous Chinese raw fish dish eaten during the Chinese New Year celebrations in Malaysia is featured in the 80sen stamp.Other traditional cakes such as Kuih Kapit, Kuih Apam, Kuih Chang and Kuih Bakul are also featured in the RM1 Stamp in the miniature sheet.Sweets such as dry longan, sweet cherries, red dates, moon cake and dried winter melon are also featured in the 60sen stamp in the booklet. 

Indian Traditional Food
The traditional festive food for the Indian community as featured in 80sen stamps are banana leaf rice.Typical festive dishes such Tosai, Janggiri, Coconut Candy are also featured in the Rm1 stamp in the miniature sheet, whereas an assortment of Maruku and Spiced Peanuts are featured in the 60sen stamp in the stamp booklet.


Sabah Ethnic Groups Traditional Food
Hinava is similar to the Yee Sang, a specialty of the Kadazandusun community in Sabah is featured in the 80sen stamp.Kelupis is a traditional dish of he Kedayan community of Sabah. Pais Ubi is a local dessert that is made from mashed topioca which is wrapped in banana leaf and later steamed. A variety of Kuih Cincin are also featured in the 60sen stamps in the stamp booklet

Sarawak Ethnic Group Traditional Food
The 80sen stamp featured the Manuk Pansuh or Bamboo Chicken is a popular Iban dish. Umai  a traditional Melanau dish ia s tangy, savoury salad consisting of raw fish, finely sliced onions and chilli, black paper, salt and lime.Laksa Sarawak is a local food. is the rice vermicelli with thick gravy made of coconut milk, candlenut, chilli, tamarind, belacan and ground coriander.The Kek Lapis Sarawak or Sarawak Layered cake, a famous colourful cake with many different beautiful patterns is also featured in the 60sen stamp.
